FOOD AUTHOR

Sam Stern has been inspiring people to cook since he was fourteen. A proud Yorkshireman and lifelong food lover, he published his first cookbook while still at schoo – which kick-started a career that has made him one of the most recognisable young voices in food.

Sam grew up cooking at home, acting as the family’s unofficial sous-chef from the moment he was tall enough to reach the worktop. Surrounded by vegetarians, vegans and meat-eaters around the same dinner table, he learned early how to make food that brings everyone together. That down-to-earth, approachable style has become his trademark.

His debut book, Cooking Up a Storm (2005), was written to help his friends enjoy cooking as much as he did. Expected to sell “about ten copies,” it became an international bestseller and led to a string of successful titles. Real Food Real Fast(2006), Get Cooking (2007), Sam Stern’s Student Cookbook (2008), Eat Vegetarian (2010), Sam Stern’s Cookery Course(2012/13), and Too Good To Share (2015) cemented his position as a leading cookbook author for younger cooks, students and home chefs looking for delicious, fuss-free food. His books have been translated into multiple languages and continue to dominate the youth cookbook market.

Sam’s warm personality and passion for making cooking accessible have earned him extensive media attention. He has appeared on BBC Breakfast, GMTV, Newsround, Sky News, Blue Peter, Calendar News and BBC Radios One, Two and Five. His writing has featured in First News, Yorkshire Life, Teen Vogue and major UK newspapers. He has also toured internationally, including a live cook-along on NBC’s Today Show during a US media tour.

A Ballymaloe Cookery School graduate, Sam trained intensively in classical cookery before completing placements in professional kitchens. He still cooks daily, always thinking three meals ahead, and continues to write, create content and develop recipes that help people cook confidently at home.

Looking ahead, Sam hopes to open his own cookery school and a restaurant-meets-jazz-bar – both rooted in his love of great food, creativity and proper Yorkshire tea.
